About

Austin Jansma is a Director of Photography based in Georgia, working primarily in narrative film.

His approach to cinematography begins with the environment—studying how light behaves within a space, how performance can move naturally through it, and how camera movement can support the emotional rhythm of a scene.

He builds immersive visual environments that allow actors to work freely within the frame, shaping light and composition in a way that feels motivated and grounded rather than imposed. His work balances a sense of beauty and control with human texture, creating images that feel composed but lived-in.

Jansma’s background includes experience with camera systems, aerial cinematography, and on-set exposure to specialty camera movement, giving him a strong understanding of how to approach both visual design and execution efficiently. He views camera movement not only as a stylistic tool, but as part of a larger system—one that supports performance, enhances storytelling, and adapts to the practical demands of production.

As a collaborator, he works closely with directors to help define and execute a project’s visual language. He thrives in environments where there is a clear sense of tone and intention, while also bringing the ability to shape and refine that vision through cinematography when needed. His focus is always on supporting the story—building images that feel honest, intentional, and emotionally resonant.

He is particularly drawn to character-driven work, where performance, atmosphere, and visual restraint come together to create something that feels both cinematic and human.
